Although perhaps apocryphal the origins of the Garrick Club necktie date back to the 1920s when actor member Norman Forbes Robertson wore what was described as a salmon and cucumber (shades of tea sandwiches) necktie to his club. Perhaps in defense of his choice of cravat he asserted that it was the official club tie. So many members petitioned to acquire one that the club adopted it officially.
